What is a Media Kit?
In short, a media kit is a document that tells potential sponsors statistics about your blog. Whether you’re a seasoned blogger or just starting out, a media kit is a must if you want to work with sponsors.
What Goes in a Media Kit?
Many different elements can go into a media kit. Typically, your media kit should include at least the following:
1. A photo of yourself – I recommend using a photo that looks professional.
2. Your blogs logo – If you can, use a high-resolution version of your logo.
3. Information about yourself – This will help potential sponsors get to know you a little better.
4. Information about your blog – Highlight what your blog is about. You can also describe who your readers are and what their habits are. This will tell potential sponsors who they’ll be advertising to if they choose to work with you.
5. Your blog statistics – This includes your monthly page views, monthly unique visitors, and email subscribers. I use Google Analytics to find my traffic statistics. If you don’t have Google Analytics set up for your blog, I highly recommend that you do it. 6. Your number of social media followers – List your number of social media follows for popular platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube, and Google+. For this section, I recommend only including your most relevant social media account.
7. Your blogs demographics/target audience – This includes the gender, age range, and location (such as the United States) of your audience. If you use Google Analytics, you can find your demographics under Audience > Demographics.
8. A showcase of the sponsors you’ve worked with in the past – You can include the names or logos of companies you’ve worked with in the past.
9. Your contact info – Be sure to leave a way for potential sponsors to get in touch with you. Always include your blog URL and your email address in your media kit.
Creating Your Media Kit
Using this free media kit template will make creating your media kit a breeze. Just open the file in Microsoft Word (2007 or newer for Windows or Mac) and swap out the demo content with your own content. It’s that easy! If you don’t have access to Microsoft Word, you can try it out for free for one month via the Microsoft Office website.
