1. Make Money Blogging
By chronicling your hobby through a blog, you’re able to reach an interested community quickly. For instance, if you run marathons, then starting a blog with tips on how you train, what you eat, and your favorite gear would be needed information for those with similar interests or just beginning.
If you haven’t started a blog yet, start your blog today and make money blogging!
You can monetize a blog through advertising space and sponsored posts. With sponsored posts, you work directly with brands to highlight, review and introduce their products to your community. If you’re new to blogging, there will be a bit of a learning curve, but the important piece— the knowledge and content— will come naturally to you.
If writing isn’t your thing, but you’re comfortable with video, a vlog or YouTube channel might be a better fit.
GROW YOUR YOUTUBE CHANNEL: If you want to grow your YouTube channel fast, I highly recommend checking out TubeBuddy. TubeBuddy is a free browser extension and app that helps you gain more subscribers, rank higher in search results, and more!
2. Freelance on Fiverr
Fiverr is a huge marketplace for micro-jobs. When you join Fiverr, you can sell any service, starting at $5. Believe it or not, there are a lot of people that make a full time living by selling their services on Fiverr.
3. List Your Property on Airbnb
This is a good option for anyone who is not utilizing a room in their home or even people who have an unoccupied or underutilized property.
The good thing about Airbnb is that the guests pay through the app so you generally will not have to worry about someone renting your space and leaving without paying because Airbnb will collect the fee and release the money to you within 24 hours.
4. Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online. Affiliate marketing is the process of earning commissions by promoting products. If you have a blog, you should definitely consider adding affiliate marketing as one of your income streams.
The key to being a successful affiliate marketer is to build an audience that trusts your opinion, and promote products that you are knowledgeable about and truly enjoy.
An easy way most beginners get started is to work through Amazon Associates. Amazon’s affiliate program is easy to join and allows you to choose from over one million products to advertise.
To learn more about affiliate marketing, I recommend reading my article about the Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing course by my friend Michelle Schroeder-Gardner. She earns $50,000 a month in affiliate income alone. After taking her online course, my affiliate income more than doubled! I can’t recommend her course highly enough.
5. Work as a Captioner
Captioning is the process of transcribing audio to text. That text is then placed onto video files. For example, when you’re watching a video online, and you see the CC (Closed Caption) option, that’s what captioning is.
I recommend checking out the site REV if you’re interested in earning money online as a captioner. As an online captioner with REV, you’re paid per video minute, which means for every minute of the video that you caption, you earn a certain amount of money.
6. Sell Your Stuff on eBay
If you have items sitting around the house that you need to get rid of, consider selling them on eBay. You would be surprised how much people are willing to pay for items that you no longer want or need.
7. Open a Shop on Etsy
If you have a hobby or skill that you can earn a profit from, why not sell your work on Etsy? I began my business by selling premade blog templates on Etsy. In my 1st year, I was able to make over $6,000 in passive income on Etsy.
If you can create or supply items that are handmade, vintage, or craft supplies, try selling your items on Etsy. Here are a few of the most popular categories on Etsy:
- Clothing and Accessories
- Craft Supplies and Tools
- Home and Living
- Kids and Baby
- Vintage and more
8. Teach Online
A relatively new side gig has emerged and that is teaching English as a second language (ESL) online. If you have a Bachelor’s degree, are based in the US or Canada, and have reliable high-speed internet then you already meet the requirements.
Companies like VIPKID give a full-on American education experience to Chinese elementary-aged students while learning the English language. One benefit of working with a company like VIPKID is that the curriculum is done for you.
They pay isn’t bad either! Starting out between $14 – $18 hourly with the opportunity for bonuses and pay raises make becoming an ESL teacher a pretty lucrative side job.
9. Make Money Shopping Online
If you love to shop online cash back programs can be beneficial if you’re using them to purchase items you would have purchased anyway. My favorite cash back program is Rakuten.
Rakuten offers cash back at over 2,000 stores whenever you begin your shopping through the Rakuten website. Whenever I shop online, I always check to see if there are cash back opportunities if I shop through Rakuten. When you join Rakuten, you will receive a $10 welcome bonus in the form of either a Walmart gift card or a Rakuten cash bonus (your choice).
Another way to earn money shopping is by shopping with MyPoints. MyPoints allows you to you earn gift cards for shopping online with any MyPoints partner including Walmart, Groupon, eBay and more.
10. Create an E-Commerce Drop Ship Company
You’ve probably heard of companies like Printful and Shopify. These type of fulfillment platforms make it incredibly easy for an everyday person that’s good with graphic design to own their own online apparel or home decor store.
Dropship companies take the hard part out of owning an online boutique. Want to sell t-shirts with your own designs, but don’t want to do the actual printing and shipping to the customer? That’s where drop shippers come in. By taking care of the “hard part,” you can focus on the parts of your business you enjoy and literally make money while you sleep.
Of course, in exchange for fulfilling your customer’s orders, your profit margin is much lower than if you were to do these things in-house.
11. Become a Freelancer
The word freelancer is pretty broad-ranging. Being a freelancer could include writing, developing websites, being a graphic designer, or even a virtual assistant. In each of these cases what makes them great for introverts is the ability to work from home (or anywhere) while being able to choose your own clientele.
There are plenty of ways to start your own freelancing gig. Some prefer to start their own official business and focus on making connections or applying directly to job posts they find online or on social media platforms like Facebook groups. Others go straight for freelancer exchanges like Upwork and Fivver to be put in direct contact with people and companies actively seeking out these roles.
While there’s no right or wrong way to build your freelance career (or even doing a combination of both), there are definitely pros and cons to finding work through networking or on an exchange site.
12. Test Websites
As a website tester, it’s your responsibility to make sure websites are running properly. Your exact tasks will vary based on the job you’re assigned. As a website tester, you can earn around $10 for each test, which makes it an excellent way to make extra money online.
If you’re interested in testing websites, here are a few websites you may want to check out:
13. Sell Your Designs on Zazzle
If you are skilled in graphic design, you can upload your designs to mugs, t-shirts, invitations, and more, and sell them on Zazzle. Once you’ve placed your designs on the products of your choice, Zazzle will handle everything else from printing to shipping to handling customer service.
14. Make Money with Your Car
Take advantage of the time you do not use your vehicle by renting it out. This is a good option for people who are taking a vacation or people that leave town on business trips.
If this is something that interests you, you can list your car for free on Getaround. Many people report that they make thousands each year by renting their cars out.
The benefits of using Getaround include dedicated parking spots around your city, a $50 credit to rent a vehicle, and up to$1 million in primary insurance coverage.
Another way to make money by using your vehicle is to get paid for advertising with Wrapify. Wrapify will pay to have your vehicle wrapped with advertisements so it is no upfront cost to you. They approximate that individuals can make between $196-$452 each month just by recording your miles driven.
15. Sell Your Photos
If you enjoy taking photos, consider selling your photography on Shutterstock. When you upload your photo to Shutterstock, you’ll earn money every time a customer downloads your photo.
16. Take Surveys
Back when I was a college student, I loved taking surveys as a way to make a little extra cash on the side. Taking surveys didn’t supplement the income that a part-time or full-time job would provide. However, I was able to make an extra $50-$75 a month (in cash and rewards) which to me, was pretty decent money considering all I had to do was sit at the computer and answer a few questions.
If you want to start taking surveys as a way to make extra money, keep in mind that there are a lot of scam survey sites out there, so make sure you do your research before signing up with a company. Below are my top 3 legitimate survey companies.
Survey Junkie: If you want to start making money right away, one of my favorite ways to make money fast is with Survey Junkie. You can make money by sharing your opinion to help brands offer better products and services. Click here to join.
Swagbucks: With Swagbucks, you earn points (Swagbucks) by taking surveys, doing online searches via the Swagbucks search engine, making purchases online, watching videos, and playing free online games.
After you’ve accumulated a certain number of Swagbucks, you can use those points to buy gift cards from merchants like Amazon, Walmart, and PayPal.
CashCrate: CashCrate is another favorite of mine that I highly recommend. CashCrate allows you to earn cash rewards by trying new products, taking surveys, and playing online games. They have a minimum payout of $20, and process payments on the 10th of the following month.
If you want to see proof of their payouts, check out their “payment wall” where real people post screenshots of the payments they’ve received from CashCrate.
Inbox Dollars: Inbox Dollars will pay you cash for watching TV, taking surveys, shopping online, playing online games, and reading the emails that they deliver to your inbox. When you sign up for Inbox Dollars, you will receive a $5 bonus.
17. Peer to Peer Lending
Just like banks, you too can lend money out to make a profit. This is where peer to peer lending (P2P) comes in. It matches individuals that need to borrow money with individuals who have money to lend.
Programs like these benefit both the borrower and the lender. For borrowers, this system helps because they are often people who do not qualify for traditional bank loans and this is one way for them to acquire the money they need. Lenders in this situation will benefit because you are paid interest on the loan, sometimes averaging over 10%.
If doing this interests you, some companies you can look at include Lending Club and Prosper. Lending Club is good for lenders because the lender receives a higher portion of the interest rate early on. Prosper works similarly to Lending Club, but borrowers typically need a credit score of 640 or higher to join.
18. Vending Machines
The vending industry is a good venture for both experienced entrepreneurs and beginners. This can become a lucrative investment for relatively low starting costs. Many can get started for as low as $2,000 with consistent profits between $600-$800 a month.
This venture does require some maintenance such as collecting the cash each week but experts say that a typical cycle for bulk food items will be between 4 to 8 weeks. This may require a little more work than the options mentioned above but many say that profits are consistent and reliable.
19. Dividend-Paying Stocks
While investing in dividend stocks does require some initial cash on hand, it can be extremely profitable for you and requires virtually no maintenance. Owning a dividend means that you are a shareholder of a business, they differ from traditional stocks that go up and down in value depending on the day.
Since as a shareholder, you a part-owner the business, you are entitled to the earnings that the business produces over time. Some investors say their dividends net them around $1,000 a month, which makes it a great way to boost your income and make money online.
Building passive income that grows over time can be extremely beneficial. Perhaps you could pay your mortgage off earlier, or even take early retirement. Creating passive income streams is the key to taking your net worth to the next level. With all of the advancements in online technology, creating passive income is easier than ever before.
20. Write an Ebook
Writing your own ebook is an excellent way to make money online. Plus, you get the satisfaction of knowing that you’ve written a book, which is cool. My first ebook “How I Made My First 1,000 Sales on Etsy and How You Can Too!” was self-published on Amazon for Kindle, and it received hundreds of downloads within a few months.
Publishing your ebook on Amazon is a great way to gain exposure, however, if your purpose is to earn a decent income, I recommend selling your e-book on your own blog or website.
