Living alone can be amazing. When you live by yourself, you can live by your own rules and enjoy your space and privacy.
However, if you find yourself spending a lot of time alone, at times you may find yourself feeling lonely, bored, and more.
If you’ve found yourself in this predicament, I’m sharing some tips for making your home feel more alive when you live alone.
Play Music or Turn on the TV
One thing about living alone is that your home is usually pretty quiet. I’ve found that playing music or even leaving the TV on for background noise is great way to make me feel not so alone.
Plus, putting on your favorite music is a great mood booster for those moments when you feel lonely, bored, or unmotivated.
Invite Friends and Family Over More Often
If you have friends or family , one good way to make your home feel more alive is by inviting them over more often. Have game nights or cook dinner and enjoy a movie together.
If you aren’t able to invite anyone over, keep in touch by texting, or meeting over Zoom or FaceTime. I love scheduling weekly craft nights over FaceTime with my sister. It’s a great way to socialize when we can’t see each other in person.
If you don’t have any friends or family, consider getting active in Facebook groups or other online communities. Check out the Just Chatting section on Twitch. Twitch isn’t just for gamers. The Just Chatting category is streamers talking with their viewers.
Interacting with other people in one way or another is a great way to boost your mood and make your home feel more alive.

Listen to Cafe Music or Other Ambient Sounds
Last year I put my old (like 2010 old) iPad to use by using it to play cafe sounds in my kitchen. Every morning when I work up I would head to the kitchen and turn on my favorite YouTube channel that plays cafe music.
Doing this did wonders for livening up my home. I found it so comforting to hear jazz music or ambient sounds throughout the day.
If you’ve ever browsed ambient sounds on YouTube, you may know that there are so many options available for white noise, and other ambient sound effects. I recently discovered that you can even listen to airport sounds if you find being at the airport relaxing.
Buy Indoor Plants or Fresh Flowers
Research shows that having indoor plants can reduce stress levels, improve your mood, boost productivity and creativity, and more.
I love adding plants and fresh flowers to my home decor because it makes my place feel cozy and alive.
Plus, whenever I buy fresh flowers, it makes me feel like I’ve done something special for myself, which is always a nice feeling.
Diffuse Essential Oils
There is evidence that shows the relaxing capabilities of essential (aromatherapy) oils. Depending on the essential oil, you could receive benefits such as improved mood, reduced anxiety, and more.
Keep Your Place Clean
A clean home can do wonders for livening up your home. Additionally, staying on top of cleaning your home is a great way to stay consistent with your daily routine. This will also keep you from feeling overwhelmed by the clutter around you.
I like to clean while I watch TV or listen to an audiobook so that it doesn’t feel like extra work.
Upgrade Your Lighting
Lighting is a huge factor when it comes to making your home feel cozy, so think about upgrading your light fixtures. I love doing this because it has an instant positive effect on my space. Plus, there are so many fun light fixtures out there!
