How to Use WordPress as a Website and Blog

A common question with WordPress is "can it be used as a website, or is it just for blogs?" Well, the answer to this question is both.

How to Use WordPress as a Blog and Website.

By default, WordPress will display as a blog, however, WordPress comes with a built-in feature that allows you to create a custom home page (static page).

You can also create a separate page within your website for blog posts only.

To begin, you should know the difference posts and pages. You can learn the difference between the two by viewing our article "Difference Between Posts and Pages."

1). To create a static home page, in your wp-admin, go to Pages > Add New and create a new page.

2). Title this page Home. If your WordPress theme gives you the option to change the appearance of your home page, you can select the "Template" in the Page Attributes Box (located on the right hand side).

3). Publish this page once you're done.

4). In your wp-admin, go to Settings > Reading and where it says "Front Page Displays As," select the the option "A Static Page."

5). Now, from the drop down menu next to "Front Page," choose the "Home" page you just created to display as your static home page.

Integrating a Blog into your WordPress Website

If you are using WordPress as a website, you have the option to integrate a blog into your site.

1). To do this, in your wp-admin go to Posts > Add New and create a new page titled "Blog."

2). Again, if your WordPress theme gives you the option to change the appearance of your blog page, you can select the "Template" in the Page Attributes Box (located on the right hand side).

3). Do not add any content to this page. Publish the page, and in your wp-admin go to Settings >Reading and where it says "Front Page Displays As", select your "Blog" post from the drop down menu next to the Posts page option.
