I’m excited to share with you one of my favorite crochet stitch patterns in blanket form; the waffle stitch. This textured stitch is perfect for creating cozy blankets, and I think you’ll agree once you complete your blanket
If you’ve never crocheted the waffle stitch before, it may seem a little intimidating. But don’t worry, it’s a lot easier than it looks. This pattern will walk you through the process and have you crocheting your very own cozy waffle stitch blanket in no time.

Made with Self-Striping Yarn
I love using self-striping yarn when working on a waffle stitch blanket. Self-striping yarn really helps the blanket stand out without having to switch between multiple skeins of yarn.
I chose to use Caron Cinnamon Swirl Cakes Yarn for this blanket because the colors are vibrant and rich, and there are plenty of color options to choose from. You can substitute this yarn with a medium (4) weight yarn of your choice.

Waffle Stitch Blanket Sizing Notes
The Waffle Stitch blanket pattern includes two sizes: 36” x 48” (Lapghan Size) and 48 x 60 inches (Throw Size). What I love about this blanket is that you can easily make it as big or small as you want. The pattern has a chain multiple of 3 plus 2 stitches.
Below I’ve included a blanket sizing guide to assist you in finding the right size for your blanket. Make sure you keep your yarn needs in mind when adjusting the size of your blanket.

Materials:
- Caron Cinnamon Swirl Cakes 407yds #4 medium weight yarn in the color Heat Wave. Can substitute with a comparable medium weight yarn. Lapghan Size: 5 skeins and Throw Size: 9 skeins
- US size H 5.0 mm crochet hook
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Sizes (approximate): 36” x 48” (Lapghan Size) and 48 x 60 inches (Throw Size)
Follow the key throughout the pattern based on the size blanket you are crocheting: (Lapghan, Throw)
Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 16 sts and 9 rows
Size Adjustment: To adjust the width of your blanket, start with a longer or shorter chain. The pattern has a chain multiple of 3 plus 2 stitches. If you want to adjust the size of your blanket, chain in multiples of 3 and add 2 stitches to that. For example, if you were to chain 12, you would then add 2 stitches for a total of 14.
Pattern Notes:
- This pattern uses the waffle stitch. If you have never done the waffle stitch, I recommend practicing with a small swatch first. You can chain 14 and follow the pattern to practice.
- If you need a visual aid to learn the waffle stitch, search YouTube for tutorials. Some patterns vary on where you place your first stitch, but the concept is the same.
- The chain 2 does not count as a stitch.
- If you have trouble identifying the first or last stitch of the row, use stitch markers to help you keep track.
