Easy 20-Minute Cup Cozy Crochet Pattern

If you’re looking for a quick crochet project or a last-minute gift idea, this 20-minute cup cozy is perfect. Because they are reusable, cup cozies are an eco-friendly way to protect your hands from heat and condensation.

Pair one of these cozies with a quick and easy crochet coaster, and you’ve got yourself a complete set for your beverages!

Adjusting the Size of Your Cup Cozy

This cozy pattern was designed to fit a 16 oz disposable coffee cup. However, you can easily customize the size of your cozy by adding or reducing the number of chains.

The yarn I’m using is a mix of cotton and acrylic, which means it has a little stretch, so 28 chains were enough for me. If your yarn doesn’t have any stretch (like 100% cotton yarn), you may have to add a few more chains.

When customizing your cozy size, remember it will start a bit tighter at the bottom and loosen up as it gets taller, so you don’t want your starting chain to be too long.

I recommend crocheting a few rounds and placing the cozy on the cup you want to use. If the fit is good, keep going. Or you may need to restart adding more or less chains.

To begin ch 28 (leave a 3-inch tail for sewing in once the cozy is finished)

Round 1: Join the last ch to the 1st ch with a sl st, ch 1 and place 1 sc in the same st. Sc in each stitch around. (28 sts) *Make sure you don’t twist the chain while doing this.

Remember to place your stitch marker in the 1st stitch of each round. This will help you keep track of when you’re starting a new round.

Rounds 2-8: Place 1 esc in the 1st st and in each st around. (28 sts)

Round 9: Place 1 sc in the 1st st and in each st around. (28 sts)

Fasten Off and Weave in Ends

When working in rounds, you end up with a slightly uneven finish when fastening off. To help make the top row a bit more even, I like to fasten off with an invisible slip stitch. This part is optional. You can fasten off using your desired method.

1. With your hook still inserted, pull up the loop a bit.

2. In the first stitch of the next round, insert your hook into the stitch from the wrong side and through to the right side of the cozy.

3. Place the loop onto the hook. Tighten the loop on the hook and pull through.

4. Fasten off a weave in the yarn.

Weaving in Bottom Tail

The bottom may also appear a little uneven. To fix this, I simply weave the tail into a few of the bottom chain stitches before fastening off.
