The moss stitch creates the most beautiful woven texture that looks intricate, but is actually very simple to create. It’s the kind of pattern that’s easy to sit down with and just enjoy.
What I really love about this blanket is that the tight stitch structure means there are no holes, making it extra warm and cozy. It’s a true wrap-up-on-the-couch kind of blanket.
I made mine using Lion Brand Scarfie yarn, and the ombre color shift takes the woven texture to a whole other level, but honestly this pattern would be stunning in any yarn you choose.

Modern Woven Blanket Sizing Notes
The Modern Woven blanket pattern includes two sizes: 36” x 48” (Lapghan Size) and 48” x 60” (Throw Size). You can easily make it as big or small as you want. Just be sure to chain an even number of chains, then follow the crochet pattern until your blanket is the size you want.
Below I’ve included a blanket sizing guide to assist you in finding the right size for your blanket.
Blanket Sizing Guide
- Baby Blanket: 36 x 36 inches
- Toddler Blanket: 40 x 60 inches
- Lapghan: 36 x 48 inches
- Throw Blanket: 48 x 60 inches
- Twin Bed: 65 x 90 inches
- Double Bed: 84 x 90 inches
Materials:
- Lion Brand Scarfie 312yds #5 Bulky weight yarn in color Pink/Silver. Lapghan Size: 5 skeins and Throw Size: 8 skeins
- US size K 6.5 mm crochet hook
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Sizes (approximate): 36” x 48” (Lapghan Size) and 48” x 60” (Throw Size)
Follow the key throughout the pattern based on the size blanket you are crocheting: (Lapghan, Throw)
Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 14 sts and 15 rows
Size Adjustment: To adjust the size of your blanket, start with a longer or shorter chain. The pattern requires an even number of chains. Follow the crochet pattern until your blanket is the length you want.
Make sure you keep your yarn needs in mind when adjusting the size of your blanket.
Pattern Notes:
- The ch 1 turning chain will be worked into at the end of the rows.
- If you have trouble identifying the first or last stitch of the row, use stitch markers to help you keep track.

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
sp – space

Modern Woven Blanket Crochet Pattern
To begin ch (126, 168)
Row 1: Work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook. *Ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch.* Repeat from * to * across the row. Ch 1 and turn. (125, 167 sts)
Row 2: Skip the first sc st, *work 1 sc in the next ch 1 sp, ch 1, skip next sc st.* Repeat from * to * across the row until you have 1 st remaining, then ch 1 and work 1 sc in the ch 1 turning chain.
Repeat Row 2 until your blanket reaches approximately (48”, 60”) or your desired length. Once you’ve reached your desired length, ch 1, turn, and work 1 sc in each sc st and ch 1 sp across. Fasten off and weave in ends.
