Housewarming Blanket Free Crochet Pattern

Moving into a new home calls for something warm, cozy, and handmade, and that’s exactly what inspired the Housewarming Blanket. I wanted to design a throw that would be the perfect gift for celebrating new beginnings, but also versatile enough to give for birthdays, holidays, or just because.

You can find the free pattern below, or you can purchase the ad-free printable PDF from my shop.

This blanket is beautifully textured, wonderfully snuggly, and surprisingly simple to make. With its relaxing one-row repeat, it’s the kind of project you can pick up anytime.

Materials:

  • 9 Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn (#4 medium weight 197yd) in the color Arrowwood. Pattern uses approximately 1,773yds.
  • US size I 5.5 mm and J 6.0 mm crochet hook
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Size (approximate) 38” x 50”

Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 10 sts and 11 rows

Size Adjustment: To adjust the width of your blanket, start with a longer or shorter chain, chaining in multiples of 2. Follow the crochet pattern until your blanket is the size you want. Make sure you keep your yarn needs in mind when adjusting the size of your blanket.

Pattern Notes:

  • The chain 2 counts as a stitch. Be sure to work the final hdc stitch into the turning chain (the top of the ch 2 from the previous row).
  • Row 1 of the blanket uses a larger hook size (J hook) because it helps prevent the blanket from bunching up. If you don’t want to go up a hook size, try your best to keep your tension very loose with the first row.

Abbreviations (US):

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
hdc – half double crochet
