Materials:

  • One skein of 100% worsted weight cotton yarn. For my dishcloths, I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in the colors white, blue grey, and beechnut.
  • US size G 4.0 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Size (approximate) 9” x 9”

Size Adjustment: To adjust the size of your dishcloth, start with a longer or shorter chain, keeping an odd number of chains. Follow the crochet pattern until your dishcloth is the size you want.

Pattern Notes:

  • The chain 1 does not count as a stitch.
  • If you have trouble identifying the first or last stitch of the row, use stitch markers to help you keep track.

Abbreviations (US):

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet

To begin ch 37

Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, *sc in ch, hdc in next ch*. Repeat from * to * across the row. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 2: Starting in the 1st st, *sc in st, hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * across the row. Ch 1 and turn. (Always sc into a hdc. Always hdc into a sc.)

  • The first st of each row will always be a sc st.
  • The last st of each row will always be a hdc st.

Repeat row 2 until your dishcloth reaches 9” or your desired length.

Add a Border

With your yarn still attached, ch 1 and sc around the dishcloth. Whenever you reach a corner, place 3 sts in the corner. When you arrive back at the corner where you started, place 3 sts in that corner. Fasten off and weave in ends.
