These easy crochet dishcloths are one of my go-to projects when I want to make something quick. They’re simple enough for beginners but still fun for more experienced crocheters who want a relaxing project.

Whether you’re stocking your own kitchen, creating handmade gifts, or just looking for a way to use up some cotton yarn, these dishcloths are a great option. Plus, they’re reusable, eco-friendly, and they hold up beautifully wash after wash.
Materials:
- One skein of 100% worsted weight cotton yarn. For my dishcloths, I used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in the colors white, blue grey, and beechnut.
- US size G 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Size (approximate) 9″ x 9″
Size Adjustment: To adjust the size of your dishcloth, start with a longer or shorter chain, keeping an odd number of chains. Follow the crochet pattern until your dishcloth is the size you want.
Pattern Notes:
- The chain 1 does not count as a stitch.
- If you have trouble identifying the first or last stitch of the row, use stitch markers to help you keep track.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet

Easy Crochet Dishcloth Pattern
To begin ch 37
Row 1: In 2nd ch from hook, *sc, hdc in next ch*. Repeat from * to * across the row. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 2: Starting in the 1st st, *sc, hdc in next st*. Repeat from * to * across the row. Ch 1 and turn. (Always sc into a hdc. Always hdc into a sc)
- The first st of each row will always be a sc st.
- The last st of each row will always be a hdc st.
Repeat row 2 until your dishcloth reaches 9″ or your desired length.
If you DO NOT want to add a border you can fasten off and weave in ends.
Add a Border
If you want to add a border, keeping the yarn and hook attached, ch 1 and place 1 sc in the same st.
Sc around the entire piece, placing 1 sc in each stitch. Whenever you reach a corner, place 2 sc sts in the corner st. This helps round out the corners a bit. Once you’ve made your way around, sl st in top of the starting ch. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Note: It can be difficult to see your stitches when crocheting along the sides. Just do your best here. The stitch count is not important.
