One of the best parts of this project is playing with color. I always enjoy mix and matching shades for a fun look. The possibilities are endless, and that creative freedom is what makes these coasters so enjoyable to make!
Materials:
- Small amount of medium worsted weight yarn. Mine were made with Lion Brand Cotton Ease yarn which has been discontinued.
- US size G 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Stitch marker
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle

Size (approximate): 4.75”
Pattern Notes:
- We’ll be working in continuous rounds. Unless mentioned specifically, do not join at the end of your rounds.
- You can use worsted weight acrylic yarn, but for more absorbent coasters, I recommend using cotton yarn.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
hdc – half double crochet
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (work 2 stitches in the same stitch)
sl st – slip stitch
picot – chain 3 and insert your hook into the first chain (the one closest to the base stitch), yarn over, and pull through both loops on the hook. This closes the loop and creates the picot.

Blue Skies Crochet Coaster Pattern
To begin Ch 2
Round 1: Work 8 hdc into 2nd chain from the hook. (8 sts)
Remember to place your stitch marker in the 1st stitch of each round. This will help you keep track of when you’re starting a new round.
Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (16 sts)
Round 3: *Inc, hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. (24 sts)
Round 4: *Inc, hdc in next 2 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. (32 sts)
Round 5: *Inc, hdc in next 3 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. (40 sts)
Round 6: *Inc, hdc in next 4 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to the first stitch of the next round (place stitch marker in sl st). (48 sts)
Round 7: Ch 1, *in the next st (sc, picot, sc) all in same st, skip next st.* Repeat from * to * around ending with a (sc, picot, sc).
Sl st to the sl st you marked with the stitch marker, fasten off and weave in ends.
