The Sunset Peaks Shawl is an easy, beginner-friendly crochet pattern made with simple double crochet stitches and gorgeous color-changing yarn.

I’ve really been enjoying crocheting shawls lately. There’s something so relaxing about watching your shawl grow, and it’s always satisfying to see the finished shawl come together.
Yarn Selection
I used Lion Brand Landscapes yarn for this shawl, and I loved working with it. I think it’s a wonderful yarn choice for shawls because it combines softness with beautiful self-striping color changes.
You’re free to use your preferred yarn and hook size for this pattern. Whatever yarn you choose, your shawl will come out beautiful!
Uses Simple Stitches
If you enjoy simple patterns that you can work on without worrying too much about counting stitches or keeping track of rows, I think you’ll love this one. The easy double crochet stitches create a nice rhythm once you get going, so you can settle in and enjoy the process without having to constantly check the pattern.

Materials:
- 5 Lion Brand Yarn Landscapes Yarn 147yds #4 medium weight. I used the color Mountain Range.
- US size K 6.5 mm crochet hook
- Stitch marker (optional)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Size (approximate): The wingspan of my shawl is 60 inches. You can make your shawl any size you want!
Gauge (4in x 4in): Not important for this pattern, but mine is approximately 11 sts and 8 rows.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sl st – slip stitch
dc – double crochet
( ) – parenthesis: stitches are all worked in one stitch or space
Pattern Notes:
- The ch 3 does not count as a stitch.
- The yarn can be substituted with your preferred yarn and hook size.

Sunset Peaks Triangle Shawl Pattern
To begin ch 4 and sl st to 1st ch to join and form a ring.
Row 1: Ch 2 and in the ring (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). The ch 2 space that you just created is the “peak space.” Ch 2 and turn. (6 sts)
Row 2: In 1st st work 2 dc, work 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, in the peak space (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), work 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 dc in last st. Ch 2 and turn. (12 sts)
Row 3: In 1st st work 2 dc, work 1 dc in each st until you reach the peak space, in the peak space (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc), work 1 dc in each st until you reach the last st, 2 dc in last st. Ch 2 and turn. (18 sts)
Note: Each row will increase by 6 sts.
Repeat Row 3 until you have completed a total of 40 rows or until the shawl reaches your desired size.
