With its squishy waffle-like texture and simple stitches, this pattern is beginner-friendly and works up in no time. Plus, it’s a great way to protect your e-reader in style.
You will need to know how to make a front post double crochet (FPdc) stitch to make this case. Don’t worry if you’re new to crocheting; this pattern is suitable for beginners. But I do recommend practicing this stitch before getting started.
*This case has been designed to comfortably fit a 5″ x 7″ Kindle Paperwhite. Use the size adjustment notes provided below to make your case larger or smaller.

Materials:
- 1 Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in the color Cafe Latte
- 1 Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in the color Bright Yellow
- US size H 5.0 mm crochet hook
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Size (approximate): 6.5″ wide and 8″ tall
Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 19 sts and 11 rows
Size Adjustment: The pattern has a chain multiple of 3 plus 2 stitches. If you want to adjust the size of your case, chain in multiples of 3 and add 2 stitches to that. For example, you can chain 12 and add 2 stitches for a total of 14.
Pattern Notes:
- The Ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
- This pattern uses the waffle stitch. If you have never done the waffle stitch, I recommend practicing with a small swatch first. You can chain 14 and follow the pattern to practice.
- If you need a visual aid to learn the waffle stitch, search YouTube for tutorials. Some patterns vary on where you place your first stitch, but the concept is the same.
- If you have trouble identifying the first or last stitch of the row, use stitch markers to help you keep track.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sl st – slip stitch
sc – single crochet

Buttered Waffle E-Reader Case Crochet Pattern
Make the Waffles Using Brown Yarn (make 2 of these)
To begin ch 29
Row 1: Place 1 dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in each chain across. Ch 2 and turn. (27 sts)
Row 2: Dc in 1st st, FPdc in next st, *Dc in next 2 sts, FPdc in next st*. Repeat from * to *. When you reach the last 2 sts, FPdc in 2nd to last stitch, and dc in last st. Chain 2 and turn. (27 sts)

Row 3: Dc in 1st 2 sts, FPdc in next 2 sts. * Dc in next st, FPdc in next 2 sts*. Repeat from * to *. Dc in last st. Chain 2 and turn. (27 sts)
Repeat rows 2 and 3 in that order until you have a total of 20 rows. After you finish row 20 ch 1 and turn. Place 1 sl st in each stitch across. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Make the Butter
To begin ch 7
Row 1: Place 1 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook and in each chain across. Chain 1 and turn. (6 sts)
Rows 2-6: Sc in each stitch, ch 1 and turn. (6 sts)
After you finish the final row, ch 1 and sc around the entire piece of butter, placing 2 sc sts in the corners (this will help round out corners). Leave long tail for sewing the butter to the waffle.

Assemble the Case
1. Sew your butter onto one of the waffles. Be sure you sew your butter on the right (correct) side of the waffle.
2. Place your two waffles on top of each other with the wrong sides facing. Attach your yarn to the top left corner of both waffles and place 1 sc into the same st.
Continue to sc the panels together going along the left side, bottom, and right side, placing 1 sc in each stitch. Whenever you reach a corner, place 2 sts in the corner. This helps round out the corners. Stop once you finish the right side (make sure you don’t accidentally close the top of your case!) fasten off and weave in your ends.

Your buttered waffle e-reader case is now complete.
