Row 1: Ch 17 and work 1 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Ch 1 and turn. (16 sts)

Row 2: *Work 1 sc blo in st, work 1 sc flo in next st.* Repeat from * to * across the row. Ch 1 and turn. (16 sts)

Repeat Row 2 until you have completed a total of 50 rows. You can add more rows here if you want a wider headband.

Add the Border

With your yarn still attached, ch 1 and sc around the ear warmer. Whenever you reach a corner, place 3 sts in the corner. When you arrive back at the corner where you started, place 3 sts in that corner. The side that’s currently facing you is the rs of the ear warmer.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing the ends together.

How to Create the Twist

1. Lay the piece flat horizontally with the RS facing up.

2. Fold each end in half (RS facing): Take the left end and fold it in half lengthwise, bringing its top edge down to meet its bottom edge. Do the same with the right end.

3. Interlock the ends: Slide the folded left and right ends so that they interlock. You will have four layers.

4. Sew through all layers: With the long tail end of the yarn and a tapestry needle, sew through all four layers going back and forth, from one side to the other.

5. Turn the ear warmer inside out: When you flip it inside out, the seam will be hidden and you’ll see a nice twist effect on the outside.
