I have a handmade coaster in basically every room of my house at this point, and I just love looking at them. If there’s an empty corner on a table, I’m tempted to fill it with another cute little stack.
The Granny Cluster Coaster is exactly the kind of project I reach for when I want something fun that works up fast. With this design, you get that classic granny look with a twist.

Materials:
- Small amount of medium worsted weight yarn. I used 7 grams of Lion Brand Wool Ease.
- US size G 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Stitch marker (optional)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Size (approximate): 4.75”
Pattern Notes:
- The ch 3 counts as a stitch throughout the pattern.
- If needed, you can place a stitch marker in the top of the ch 3. This will help identify the ch 3 throughout the pattern.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sk – skip
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
sl st – slip stitch

Granny Cluster Coaster Pattern
To begin ch 4 and sl st to 1st ch to join and form a ring.
Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc now and throughout pattern), work 11 dc into the ring. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (12 sts)
Round 2: Ch 3, work 2 dc in same st. Ch 1, sk next st, *3 dc in next st, ch 1, sk next st.* Repeat from * to * around until you reach the last st where you will ch 1, sk the final st and sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (24 sts and 6 dc clusters)
Round 3: Ch 3, work 2 dc in same st. Ch 1, *3 dc in next ch 1 space, ch 1, sk next st, in next st 3 dc, ch 1.* Repeat from * to * around until you reach the last ch 1 space where you will work 3 dc in the space, then sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (47 sts and 12 dc clusters)
Round 3 Notes:
- The dc cluster might cover the stitch right after it, making the stitch easy to miss. Make sure you don’t miss this stitch when instructed to “sk next st.”
Round 4: Ch 1 (does not count as a st), work 1 sc in same st. Work 1 sc in each st and ch 1 space around. St st to the 1st sc st to join. (47 sts)
Round 5: Ch 3, work 4 dc in same st, *sk next st, sc in next st, sk next st, work 5 dc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around until you reach the last 2 sts, then sk next st, sc in final st, then sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off and weave in ends.
