I love a good chunky crochet blanket. They’re warm and cozy, and the thicker yarn means you can finish a full-size blanket without it feeling like a never-ending project. The Homestead Ridge Blanket uses chunky yarn to create a thick, substantial fabric that feels just as cozy as it looks.

One of my favorite details for this blanket is the ridged texture. It gives the pattern a little extra interest while still keeping the overall design simple. The stitch pattern is also easy to get into a rhythm with, making this a nice project to work on when you want something that doesn’t require too much concentration.
Homestead Ridge Blanket Sizing Notes
The Homestead Ridge blanket pattern includes two sizes: 36” x 48” (Lapghan Size) and 48” x 60” (Throw Size). Below I’ve included a blanket sizing guide to assist you in finding the right size for your blanket.
Blanket Sizing Guide
- Baby Blanket: 36 x 36 inches
- Toddler Blanket: 40 x 60 inches
- Lapghan: 36 x 48 inches
- Throw Blanket: 48 x 60 inches
- Twin Bed: 65 x 90 inches
- Double Bed: 84 x 90 inches
Materials:
- Lion Brand Hue + Me Yarn 137yds #5 bulky weight yarn. Lapghan Size: 9 skeins and Throw Size: 14 skeins
- US size M/N 9.0 mm crochet hook
- Stitch markers (optional)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Measuring tape
Size Adjustment: To adjust the width of your blanket, start with a longer or shorter chain, using any number of chains. Follow the crochet pattern as written until your blanket is the length you want.
Sizes (approximate): 36” x 48” (Lapghan Size) and 48” x 60” (Throw Size)
Follow the key throughout the pattern based on the size blanket you are crocheting: (Lapghan, Throw)
Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 8 sts and 8 rows
Pattern Notes:
- The chain 1 does not count as a stitch.
- If you have trouble identifying the first or last stitch of the row, use stitch markers to help you keep track.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
FPhdc – front post half double crochet: Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front around the post of the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.

Homestead Ridge Blanket Pattern
To begin ch (76, 98)
Row 1: Work 1 hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in each ch across the row. Turn and ch 1.
Rows 2-3: Hdc in each st across the row. Turn and ch 1.
Row 4: Hdc in 1st st, FPhdc in each st across the row until you reach the final st where you will hdc in the last st. Turn and ch 1.
Rows 5-7: Hdc in each st across the row. Turn and ch 1.
Row 8: Hdc in 1st st, FPhdc in each st across the row until you reach the final st where you will hdc in the last st. Turn and ch 1.
Rows 9-11: Hdc in each st across the row. Turn and ch 1.
Repeat Rows 8-11 in that order until your blanket reaches approximately (48”, 60”) or your desired length.
Add the Border
Once you’ve reached your desired length, turn, ch 1 and sc around the blanket. Whenever you reach a corner, place 3 sts in the corner. When you arrive back at the corner where you started, place 3 sts in that corner. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
