Pink Sands Summer Blanket Crochet Pattern

I’m so happy to be sharing this summer crochet blanket pattern with you! The pink sands summer blanket has quickly become one of my favorite warm-weather projects. It’s made with Caron Cotton Cakes, a soft and breathable cotton blend yarn that’s perfect for summer.

You can find the free pattern below, or you can purchase the ad-free printable PDF from my shop.

Let me tell you, I had a lot of fun working on this blanket. The pattern changes up enough to keep you entertained throughout the process, while still being mindless enough to crochet while watching TV or listening to an audiobook. Plus, the self-striping yarn keeps things interesting too!

Pink Sands Blanket Sizing Notes

The Pink Sands blanket pattern includes two sizes: 39” x 50” (Larger Lapghan Size) and 48” x 60” (Throw Size). You can easily make it as big or small as you want. Just be sure to chain an even number of chains, then follow the crochet pattern until your blanket is the size you want.

Below I’ve included a blanket sizing guide to assist you in finding the right size for your blanket.

To begin ch (128, 156)

Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, work 1 sc. Place 1 sc in each chain across the row. Ch 2 and turn. (127, 155 sts)

Rows 2-7: Place 1 dc in the 1st st and in each st across the row. Ch 2 and turn.

Row 8: In the 1st st work 1 dc, *ch 1, skip 1 st, and in the next st work 1 dc.* Repeat from * to * across the row. Placing 1 dc in the final st. Ch 2 and turn.

Note for row 9: When you see the instruction to “dc in next st,” I’m referring to the top of the dc from the previous row.

Row 9: Place 1 dc in the 1st st, place 1 dc in the next ch space, *dc in next st, dc in next ch space.* Repeat from * to * across the row. Placing 1 dc in the final st. Ch 2 and turn.

Rows 10-15: Place 1 dc in the 1st st and in each st across the row. Ch 2 and turn.

Repeat rows 8-15 until your blanket reaches (50”, 60”) or your desired length. If you do not want to add a border, you can fasten off and weave in the ends. If you do want to add a border, don’t fasten off just yet. We will now add a border.

Add the Border

Round 1: With your yarn still attached, ch 2 and dc around the blanket. Whenever you reach a corner, place 5 dc sts in the corner. When you arrive back at the corner where you started, place 5 dc sts in that corner.

Note: It can be difficult to see your stitches when crocheting along the sides. Just do your best here. The stitch count is not important.

Round 2: Continue to dc around the entire blanket again, placing 5 dc stitches in each corner. When you reach the corner where you started, place 5 dc sts in the starting corner, sl st to the next 2 sts, fasten off and weave in the ends.
