Sizes (approximate): 36” x 48” (Lapghan Size) and 48” x 60” (Throw Size)

Follow the key throughout the pattern based on the size blanket you are crocheting: (Lapghan, Throw)

Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 13 sts and 8 rows

Size Adjustment: To adjust the width of your blanket, start with a longer or shorter chain, using any number of chains. Follow the crochet pattern until your blanket is the length you want.

Make sure you keep your yarn needs in mind when adjusting the size of your blanket.

Abbreviations (US):

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
hdc – half double crochet
dc – double crochet
hdc blo – half double crochet back loop only
dc blo – double crochet back loop only
sl st – slip stitch

Pattern Notes:

  • The chains do not count as a stitch.
  • Fasten off and cut yarn after each row.
  • To ensure straight edges, try to keep your tension the same while working on your blanket. I also recommend using stitch markers in the first and last stitch of each row so you don’t miss a stitch.
  • I recommend weaving in the ends as you work on your blanket if you don’t like weaving them in all at once.

Prism Crochet Blanket Pattern

To begin, using color Color A ch (118, 156)

Row 1 (RS): Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, work 1 sc. Place 1 sc in each chain across the row. Ch 2 and turn. (117, 155 sts)

Row 2: Work 1 dc in the 1st st, then work 1 dc blo in each st across until you reach the last st where you’ll work 1 dc in the final st. Attach Color B, ch 1 and turn.

Row 3: Work 1 hdc in the 1st st, then work 1 hdc blo in each st across until you reach the last st where you’ll work 1 hdc in the final st. Attach Color A, ch 2 and turn.

Row 4: Work 1 dc in the 1st st, then work 1 dc blo in each st across until you reach the last st where you’ll work 1 dc in the final st. Attach Color B, ch 1 and turn.

Repeat rows 3 and 4 until your blanket reaches approximately (47”, 59”) or your desired length. Once you’ve reached your desired length, fasten off and weave in ends. We will finish off the blanket with a border.

Add the Border

Round 1: With the RS of the blanket facing up, attach Color B to the top left corner of the blanket, ch 1 and sc around the blanket. Whenever you reach a corner, place 3 sts in the corner. When you arrive back at the corner where you started, place 3 sts in that corner.

Note: It can be difficult to see your stitches when crocheting along the sides. Just do your best here. The stitch count is not important.

Round 2: Sl st to the next st, ch 2 and dc in each st around the blanket. Whenever you reach a corner, place 5 sts in the corner. When you arrive back at the corner where you started, place 5 sts in that corner. Sl st to the next st, fasten off and weave in the ends.
