Waffle Stitch Dishcloth Free Crochet Pattern

This waffle stitch dishcloth is one of my favorite quick crochet projects. The deep, squishy texture of the waffle stitch not only looks great, but it also makes the perfect scrubby surface for dishes, countertops, and kitchen clean-ups.

You can find the free pattern below, or you can purchase the ad-free printable PDF from my shop.

The waffle stitch may look intricate, but it’s created using a repeat of simple stitches that come together to form that signature grid texture. Once you get into the rhythm, it works up quickly and becomes almost meditative.

This dishcloth pattern is beginner-friendly for those ready to practice post stitches, and it’s also a relaxing make for experienced crocheters.

Materials:

  • 1 Classic Cotton Yarn by Loops and Threads 120yds #4 medium weight yarn
  • US size G 4.0 mm crochet hook
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Size (approximate): 7.25” x 7.25”

Gauge (4in x 4in): Approximately 18 sts and 10 rows

Size Adjustment: To adjust the width of your dishcloth, start with a longer or shorter chain. The pattern has a chain multiple of 3 plus 2 stitches. For example, if you were to chain 12, you would then add 2 stitches for a total of 14.

Pattern Notes:

  • The Ch 2 does not count as a stitch.
  • This pattern uses the waffle stitch. If you have never done the waffle stitch, I recommend practicing with a small swatch first. You can chain 14 and follow the pattern to practice.
  • If you have trouble identifying the first or last stitch of the row, use stitch markers to help you keep track.

Abbreviations (US):

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
dc – double crochet
FPdc – front post double crochet
RS – right side
WS – wrong side
