Sun Coaster Crochet Pattern

These crochet sun coasters work beautifully for daily coffee and tea, summer get-togethers, desk setups, and easy gifts like housewarmings and more. They’re also a nice way to use up leftover yarn.

Materials:

Size (approximate): 5.75”

Abbreviations (US):

ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
sl st – slip stitch
picot – chain 3 and insert your hook into the first chain (the one closest to the base stitch), yarn over, and pull through both loops on the hook. This closes the loop and creates the picot.

Sun Coaster Crochet Pattern

To begin Ch 4 and sl st to 1st ch to join and form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc now and throughout pattern), work 11 dc into the ring. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (12 sts)

Round 2: Ch 3, work 1 dc in same st, then work 2 dc in each st around. Sl st to ch 3 to join. (24 sts)

Round 3: Ch 3, work 1 dc in same st, *work 1 dc in next st, work 2 dc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join. Fasten off and weave in ends. (36 sts)

Round 4: Ch 3, work 1 dc in same st, *work 1 dc in next 2 sts, work 2 dc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to top of ch 3 to join. (48 sts)

Round 5: Ch 1 and in the same st (sc, dc, dc, picot, dc, dc, sc), skip next 2 sts, *in the next st (sc, dc, dc, picot, dc, dc, sc) all in same st, skip next 2 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. You will skip the last 2 stitches, sl st to the ch 1, then fasten off and weave in ends.
