This sunflower coaster works up quickly, uses basic stitches, and is beginner friendly. Whether you’re making a full set for your own home or putting together a handmade gift, this coaster is a functional way to enjoy a classic sunflower design.

Materials:
- Medium worsted weight yarn in the colors brown and yellow. Mine were made with Red Heart Super Saver yarn.
- US size G 4.0 mm crochet hook
- Stitch marker
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle

Size (approximate): 5.75”
Pattern Notes:
- We’ll be working in continuous rounds. Unless mentioned specifically, do not join at the end of your rounds.
Abbreviations (US):
ch – chain
st(s) – stitch(es)
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet
inc – increase (work 2 stitches in the same stitch)
sl st – slip stitch
picot – chain 3 and insert your hook into the first chain (the one closest to the base stitch), yarn over, and pull through both loops on the hook. This closes the loop and creates the picot.

Sunflower Coaster Crochet Pattern
To begin Ch 2 using brown yarn.
Round 1: Work 8 hdc into 2nd chain from the hook. (8 sts)
Remember to place your stitch marker in the 1st stitch of each round. This will help you keep track of when you’re starting a new round.
Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (16 sts)
Round 3: *Inc, hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. (24 sts)
Round 4: *Inc, hdc in next 2 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. (32 sts)
Round 5: *Inc, hdc in next 3 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. (40 sts)
Round 6: *Inc, hdc in next 4 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. Sl st to the first stitch of the next round and fasten off yarn. (48 sts)
Attach the yellow yarn.
Round 7: Ch 1 and in the same st (sc, dc, dc, picot, dc, dc, sc), skip next 2 sts, *in the next st (sc, dc, dc, picot, dc, dc, sc) all in same st, skip next 2 sts.* Repeat from * to * around. You will skip the last 2 stitches (don’t mistake the sl st you made previously for a stitch), sl st to the ch 1, then fasten off and weave in ends.
